Satisloh at the Special Olympics Bavaria 2025

From July 14th to 18th, 2025, the city of Erlangen became the heart of inclusion and athletic spirit as it hosted Bavaria’s largest inclusive sports event — the Special Olympics. With over 1,500 athletes and companions participating in more than 20 disciplines, the event was not only a celebration of sports but also of community, joy, and human connection.

A key highlight of the event was the impactful presence of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, operating under the umbrella of the EssilorLuxottica Group and in close collaboration with all its subsidiaries — including Satisloh. Through the Foundation’s Opening Eyes program, the initiative provided free vision screenings and prescription glasses to athletes in need, underscoring the Group’s global commitment to vision care and social responsibility. 

In Erlangen, 66 volunteers from across the Group came together to support this mission. Over the course of the week, they conducted 483 vision screenings, resulting in the distribution of 387 pairs of glasses to athletes — a life-changing gift for many. Notably, 8 out of 10 athletes screened were found to have unmet vision needs, highlighting the critical importance of this initiative.

Satisloh was proud to be part of this effort, with six employees volunteering on-site. Among them was Lorena Schergaut, Field Marketing Manager EMEA/India, who shared:

I was truly overwhelmed with joy by the positive spirit of the event. I’ve never felt such pure energy and empathy. More than once, I had tears in my eyes. It was incredibly moving to see how much joy a simple pair of glasses could bring. I never expected that so many people in Germany are unaware they even need vision correction.
