Flexibility and process safety- Satisloh focuses on their new developments
At this years OPATEC, the international trade fair for optical technologies, the topic “Flexibility and Process Safety” in the development of machines, processes and technologies, is a top priority. More than 85 years experience in precision optics and more than 12,000 installed machines stand for a defined market position in this traditional company.

Steffan Gold, head of the precision optic department at the Satisloh group speaks about the OPTATEC 2010: “The development of optical technologies is advancing rapidly and our new developments provide our customers with improvements in quality as well as quantity in their manufacturing sectors. The current crisis has shown that, more than ever, a high level of flexibility, coupled with an efficient, process-safe production is an important prerequisite for the economical success of the optical manufacturer.”

The central solution: Bosch Rexroth IndraMotion MTX
Satisloh has already counted on the innovative MTX-guiding-system, with the introduction of the multifunctional 5axis-machining centres SPM/SPS-60.
This system, which is exclusively used with the optical manufacturing machines at Satisloh, allows for an extremely precise and dynamic machining process. The safety of the operator is the number one priority and complies with the newest EU guidelines.
At the OPTATEC the MTX-controls in the SPM/SPS-30-series processing machines, the SPS-55-series polishing machine, the SPM/SPS-60 processing machines, the SPM/SPS-140-series as well as the GI-system, are being introduced.

Additional improvements are the uniform operating surfaces of all machine types with Touch-Screen, the integration of 3-D simulation to visualise the planned processing steps, the simple error diagnosis via an external Remote-Service and the possibility to integrate the optical processing machines into the corporate network.

Innovations in asphere manufacturing
With the new processing machine series SPM/SPS-30 asphere processing is now possible.
Especially in micro optics aspheres are of increasing importance. The SPM/SPS-30 series allows the production of highly precise aspheres with diameters in the area from 5mm to a maximum of 30mm.

An important innovation in the production of aspheres is a cost-efficient tactile measuring system that Satisloh will introduce at the trade fair with the On-Machine-Metrology System (OMM) for the SPM-60 and SPM-140. This new system allows tactile measuring of the lens in the grinding machine. Here, the lens to be processed can be measured on the machine in the same setting. Not only does this provide an extremely accurate measurement, but will also save time and money, since there is less waste and the removal and re-uptake of the work piece for measuring purposes outside of the machine is minimized.

With the use of flexible tools Satisloh developed a special technology for the last step in asphere processing, that makes a shape-retaining pre-polishing and a local correction-polishing possible. The Satisloh-approach is new: The form of removal is being calculated depending on the curvature of the area being processed. With this technology Satisloh made a decisive improvement in the long term stability in the processing of aspheric surfaces.

“Satisloh is the leader in the 5axis-CNC-processing of complex optical components. In the areas of technology, processes and ease of operation we are entitled to set standards. That is what our customers expect and we are looking forward to interesting conversations in Frankfurt”, as said by Steffan Gold.
